The Third Floor is my favourite “hair place” I’ve ever been to in my life. It is on the third floor. I think that is funny and also a little ominous. Their website looks a bit like Avril Lavigne puked on it but the reality is there isn’t any black or pink in the entire space. Now that I think of it maybe they were trying to go with the ominousness of THE THIIIIIIIIIIRD FLOOOOOOOOOR MUAHAHAHA. Like, what happens on the third floor? No one knows. International mystery. Unless you book an appointment.
Not scary or Avril-y! Beautiful sunshine always streams through the windows even when it’s raining.
I am usually a bit uncomfortable at hair places because, NOT TO STEREOTYPE, but the hoes and tricks working there (I’m currently listening to R. Kelly) are often super made up and pry way too much into your personal life and if you don’t divulge, WELL GUESS WHAT, you get to hear everything about theirs. (in my head) “SHUT THE FUCK UP. I don’t care what you and TRISHA did last night or whether MELISSA is fucking Brad.”
Nope, don’t go to a place like this, sister!
The Third Floor is pretty much the opposite of that. It is super comfortable and Amanda and Minna are so welcoming. “Oh hey, we’re two normal people and we cut hair and colour it and style it and put weird shit in it (feathers and tinsel and ribbons and other fairy princess things) and also do amazing makeup no big deal”.
This is a cool thing.
I’ve only gone to Amanda and she is great. She doesn’t talk a lot if she thinks you don’t want to talk a lot. She is like a feelings psychic. The weird thing is, I actually DO want to talk to her. But we also share comfortable silences. AND she seems to know exactly what I want even if I don’t know. Are we dating? Tell me the truth.
I got extensions from Amanda and no one even noticed so they must’ve been real good. Also a feather or two- WACKY!
They also have a pretty kitchen.
The Third Floor is on Queen Street West at Tecumseth if you’re too lazy to look it up.
Rating: Really, really good, the best.
